Barn Dance Band

ODDSOX is a 4-piece barn dance and Scottish Ceilidh band from Buckinghamshire, that performs in the Northants, Bedford, Oxford region.

The band prides itself on a professional approach to all situations and, importantly, a strong sense of FUN. This evident in their choice of footwear and quest for even more outrageous socks !

ODDSOX are in great demand for weddings, parties, charity events, corporate entertainment and other functions requiring that little bit of extra in entertainment value.

Disco Music If you want to round off your evening with some disco dancing there's no need to hire a separate disco. Oddsox can provide a good mixture of popular party music played through their high quality sound system coupled with light sequencers.

Our play list consists mainly of 60's, 70's and 80's music but we are happy to take requests or play CD's or mp3's provided by the customer. What we won't do is have the volume so loud that it damages your hearing! Contact us for further details. Our aim is to provide the perfect entertainment package for your function.

Meet the Band

John Farman - The Caller and bass guitar. John is the man who makes the party swing. His dry sense of humour and quick wit is sure to keep you on your toes. John started his musical life playing the Blues and rock covers on the Northampton circuit. With a change of direction he became a founder member of Indigo Jazz - a trad jazz band. In 1997 John moved to Milton Keynes and met Joe at the locally renowned folk club held in the Cannon, Newport Pagnell. It was there he discovered a whole new world of bluegrass and celtic music.

When Joe decided to form ODDSOX , John didn't need much persuading to join! An accountant by day, John admits to being happier when he's keeping the beat than keeping the books.

Joe Boland - melodeon, mandolin, fiddle, vocals, piano, guitar, banjo - and working on sousaphone, etc. etc.

Joe is a very versatile musician who was born to fiddle and has his roots in Ireland. He has a long musical past during which he has been everything from a Pop/Rock bassist to the bandmaster in a Morris side. In the last few years he has had a wonderful time travelling all over the country (and Scotland - loves wearing the kilt) performing with the successful barn dance band, NOW THEN.

During his spare time he runs his own piano tuning, reconditioning and sales business.

Jon Cornwell - rhythm guitar and big smile. Jon is a keen salsa dancer, a Buddhist and a practitioner of the Japanese art of Shiatsu. He harnesses this seemingly contradictory blend of elements - serenity and explosive energy in his performances on guitar.

It is rumoured that Jon was discovered in the pubs and clubs of Northampton performing classic hits of the 60's, 70's and 80's with the Reg Dugan Band (incidentally where he met John) and, later, with "Cordial".

Norman Coombes - rhythm guitar, mandolin and Scottish small pipes. Norman has been playing the guitar since he was 14 and has almost got the hang of it now! He fell in love with Folk music during the big revival of the sixties (he says he was just a baby at the time) and he is now a familiar face at many local music sessions. He plays a variety of instruments including the bellows operated Scottish small pipes which enhance the band's highland sound when they play for Scottish ceilidhs. Norman's day job is providing technical support for a space research group - yes it is rocket science!
